Medical Anthropology and Bridges to Ancient Wisdoms Workshop
What It Means To Be Human
The key innovation these participatory workshops bring to you and your organisation, is that together we explore What it Means to Be Human.
We explore Beliefs about Health, what causes it, and therefore what strategies can be used to treat ill health.
We consider a range of beliefs about being human, beliefs about our existence in the world, beliefs about spirituality and religion.
Innovative Courses
The unique selling point is that these courses are innovative: they go way beyond merely addressing equality and diversity around skin colour, age, and ability. They present people’s beliefs about being human. They are participatory, so we discuss what this means to people in the group. Workshops set out a range of cultural beliefs around the human body and health, and what is considered ‘normal’ and by whom. We take into account power and authority.
During the course we explore people’s beliefs around ten topics which include: Women and wellbeing; Conception what causes or inhibits it; Mental Wellbeing and what is normal to whom; ‘Unusual’ human experiences and strategies to address them; explanations for Death and Dying according to different peoples and religions, and people’s beliefs about what happens Beyond Death.
Sessions We Cover
There are also sessions which explore What it Means to be a Migrant, first, second and third generation. We also cover what the term ‘Host Population’ means.
Our final session discusses Cultural U-Turns, where we explore the laws around being human, that governments and authorities have modified, as their Beliefs about What is Normal have shifted, in time.
